PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POROUS CARBON FROM RICE HUSK APPLIED FOR ELECTRODE MATERIALS

    Get PDF
Rice husk (RH) was used as the precursor for porous carbon preparation applying as electrode materials. Porous carbon was synthesized by pyrolysis of RH under inert gas atmosphere followed by hydrothermal treatment in NaOH to remove the silica fraction and K2CO3 activation to increase porosity of archived carbon. The temperature of RH decomposition was determined by the thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) method in the nitrogen atmosphere. The performance of porous carbon and C-SiOx were examined using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) measurement and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electrochemical characterizations of the synthesized materials were analyzed using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronopotentiometry techniques. The effect of parameters of hydrothermal and activation steps on the capacity of these porous carbons were researched. The activated porous carbon which obtained by K2CO3 activation at 9000C in 2 hours has high specific surface area (SBET = 769.3 m2/g). Specific capacitance of the as-prepare electrode is 116.2 F.g-1 at scan rate of 5 mV/s. Therefore, as-prepared porous carbon from RH would be proper candidate for application as electrode material

Research on Criteria for Operational Audit of Expenditure from State Budget in Vietnam

    Get PDF
In Vietnam, operational audits have been upgraded as an independent form of audit in the operation of the supreme audit agency. However, because it was introduced later than other types of audit, it is still confusing and general in setting criteria of audit. There are no specific guidelines for auditing expenditure from state budget. Therefore, the formation and application of audit criteria in the audit practice of expenditure from state budget has not been effective, spontaneous and influenced by the actual capacity of assigned auditors. Meanwhile, in order to perform the proper audit function, the most important thing is to build up the evaluation criteria. Based on data collected both secondary and primary from interviewing auditors, experts in the field of state budget, we conducted the synthesis, analysis, evaluation, comparison and clarification of research issues. The results show that the formation of audit criteria is not really reasonable; criteria for economic efficiency and effectiveness are sometimes unclear. Therefore, this study is to identify and develop criteria for evaluating the operational audit of expenditure from state budget in Vietnam. Get PDF
Thermoanaerobacterium aciditolerans bacterium Trau DAt isolated in Vietnam had the hydrogen production capability under the anaerobic condition at 55oC. Using glucose, the dark fermentation of strain Trau DAt for hydrogen production was performed in three different scales: the flask scales under the suitable (1) and optimal (2) conditions, and the automatic fermentor system Bio-Flo 110 (3). Under the suitable condition, the strain Trau DAt produced 330 ml volume total gas (L-1) and hydrogen occupied 42.95% of gas total. Under the optimal condition, the maximum volume total gas of 701 ml (L-1) was obtained and hydrogen occupied of 77.2% total volume gas. Based on results of RSM analysis and pH controlled examination, the dark fermentation of strain Trau DAt was performed under automatic fermentor system scale (Bio-Flo 110). 2.64 L total gas (L-1) was obtained by consuming 92.58% glucose and hydrogen volume occupied 94.85% of gas total. The maximum hydrogen yield of strain Trau DAt was 1.63 mol H2 (mol glucose)-1. Obtained results showed the remarkable potentiality of Trau DAt strain in application to the larger fermentation scale for biohydrogen production in Vietnam

Determining the Price of Software Products in Software Manufacturing Firms in Vietnam

    Get PDF
From the early 2000s to the present, Vietnam has made efforts to facilitate the development of information technology industry and to promote the growth of it market in general and software in particular. Many policies and measures to encourage the development of software firms have been issued by the government. However, despite enjoying favorable conditions from the State's support policy, software firms still face many difficulties in product consumption. In addition to illegally copying software and copyrighted software that have been severely damaged, causing great harm to manufacturers, there are also situations where products are not sold with the right value. Currently, in Vietnam there is not yet a method of calculation, as well as a complete unified accounting for the determination of software product price, each firm follows its experience. Based on data collected, both primary and secondary, we synthesize, evaluate, compare and analyze the research topic. The results show that the determination of software product price at software manufacturing firms is not very reasonable; the recognition and allocation of core software value has not been proper. So based on the findings, some recommendations are given for improving the determination of product prices at software manufacturing firms in the context of developing countries like Vietnam. Financial Performance and Corporate Governance in Microfinance: Evidence from Vietnam

    Get PDF
Good corporate governance is considered a building block of success for microfinance institutions (MFIs) as it is presumed to help them in achieving their social and financial goals. This study analyzes the corporate governance and financial performance relationship for MFIs in Vietnam. We construct a corporate governance index based on seven measures pertaining to board size and composition, CEO characteristics, and ownership type. We then estimate the two-way relationship between this index and each of five different financial performance indicators. To address the likely simultaneity between corporate governance and financial performance, we adopt a two-stage least squares estimation approach with instrumental variables. The results confirm the endogenous nature of corporate governance and financial performance. We conclude that profitability and sustainability of MFIs improve with good governance practices and conversely that more profitable and sustainable MFIs have better governance systems. Adoption and impact of gaps in pig value chains: Implications for institutional policy and practice change

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the adoption of VietGAHP, a set of guidelines for best practices in pig production, and evaluates impacts using quantitative and qualitative indicators. It tackles the following specific research questions: 1) What is the extent of adoption of VietGAHP among smallholder pig producers? 2) Is there a difference in performance between VietGAHP adopters and non-adopters? Outcomes from adoption and compliance with VietGAHP are assessed using reduction in mortality as a metric for efficacy. Cost-benefit comparisons are also made to illustrate economic outcomes as a measure of effectiveness. We employ statistical t-tests for mean comparison of outcomes between VietGAHP adopters and non-adopters and across exposed and control sites. Our study shows productivity gains from practice and behavioral changes elicited from adoption and compliance with VietGAHP outweigh the costs of doing so, at least at the household level. The observed economic and market incentives could boost the adoption of VietGAHP if these incentives are sustained with appropriate institutions in place. Scalability could be facilitated by exposure via demonstration effects. Peer-to-peer learning is an effective strategy in enhancing capacity for uptake. With exposure being strongly linked to uptake, regardless of gender of respondents, training opportunities for non-exposed groups are worthwhile to pursue

Factors contributing to animal health risks: Implication for smallholder pig production in Vietnam

    Get PDF
In Vietnam, there are about four million households producing pigs of which more than half are producing at small scale, i.e., about one to two pigs per production cycle. One of the most critical constraints to pig production, especially for small scale, is the presence of animal disease. Many types of diseases have been reported by smallholder pig producers in Hung Yen such as diarrhea, pneumonia, fever, blue ear, head edema and pasteurellosis. The percentage of sick pigs is highest among piglets (27 percent), as compared with growing pigs and fatteners (five percent each). Diseases could lead to death of pigs, resulting in economic losses to the pig producers. Estimates of the cost of mortality in pig production in Hung Yen were about 3.3 million VND per household, accounting for about 13.6 percent of total income from pig production. Results of this study suggest that there are some practices that contribute to mitigating disease risk and those practices can be easily applied at small scale of pig production. These practices are related to applying a suitable production scale, isolating different age classes of pigs, designing pig houses and using specialized livestock farming tools and sanitation. The value of losses avoided from the above practices is estimated at 320.3 USD per household per year

Using metagenomics tool to evaluate the enrichment efficiency of methanogens in marine sediment in Truong Sa archipelage, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam

    Get PDF
Methanogens (archaea bacteria that produce methan) play an important role in the anaerobic digestion of organic waste, however, in marine environment, the low density of methanogens makes anaerobic digestion very slow. In this study, we used methagenomics tool to evaluate the enrichment efficiency of methanogens communities in marine sediments as a basis for building a anaerobic microbial formulation to treat organic waste in marine environment. The results of determination of methanogen density by MPN method have shown that methanogen has been accumulated with higher density (up to 3.2.107 MNP/ml) through 2 times of enrichment in artificial seawater with CH3COONa 10 mM substrate. In addition, metagenomics data have also shown a decrease in the number of archaea species through each enrichment, indicating that methanogenic species have gradually dominated the microbial community. This is the first study on using metagnenomics tools to evaluate the enrichment of methanogens in marine sediment samples in Truong Sa archipelago, Vietnam. Metagenomics data help provide more reliable evidence in microbial studies, especially in obligate anaerobes such as methanogens
